- When & Where will this take place? The state-of-the-art mobile breast screening center will be at 29818 FM 1093, where RE/MAX Realty West is located, on August 6, from 8am to 5pm.
- Why should I get a mammogram? By carefully evaluating your mammogram, Dr. Roubein has the opportunity to find breast cancer that is too small to be felt or noticed as a breast lump. For instance, we hear comments such as, “I examine my breasts and they seem fine. Do I really have to bother with a mammogram?” Answer: There is no “good” reason to neglect breast screenings. Mammograms reveal changes that cannot be found any other way. Dr. Roubein has screened tens of thousands of women from all over Texas and Louisiana and has served as a consultant for patients throughout the country and for patients from abroad. Be safe and trust Mammosafe and Dr. Roubein for preventative breast healthcare.
- What is a screening mammogram? A screening mammogram is a safe, low-dose x-ray of the breast performed on a woman who has no breast problems. It is designed to detect breast problems of which a woman may be unaware. A mammogram is the most effective method of detecting breast cancer in its earliest and most treatable stages.
- How does a mammogram “work”? Patients stand in front of a special x-ray machine while a female radiologic technologist places a breast between two plates (an x-ray plate and a plastic plate). These plates compress and flatten the breast which allows a clearer picture of the breast tissue. In fact, the flatter the breast, the clearer the image. The “squeezing” sensation may momentarily cause discomfort and pressure on the breast. The same procedure is performed twice by the technician—once for each breast. Mammosafe technology leads the industry in that results are transmitted and recorded directly into a radiology information system, and then “read” (evaluated) by Dr. Roubein in real time. He then consults with patients who are often are given preliminary reports before they leave the mobile unit. This groundbreaking service is what makes Mammosafe so valuable to patients—that, and the convenience of having us come to you.
- How do I register? Clients can register by calling the number or on the MammoSafe website (www.mammosafe.com). All qualifications and important information and instructions are on the website.
- How long can I expect the appointment to take from start to finish? Fifteen to twenty minutes, save time by bringing the filled out downloadable forms (off the website) with you.
- Who administers the mammogram? Dr. Roubein is a radiologist based in Houston, has been in practice for over 20 years and his practice is devoted solely to breast imaging. Dr. Roubein’s radiology practice, Mammosafe, is dedicated to providing top quality screening mammography services to women in the greater Houston metropolitan area and beyond. The cost of the mammogram is usually billed through normal insurance channels.
- What is the cost of this exam? Mammosafe takes all major insurance; Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, CIGNA and Scott and White, and can bill out of network for other carriers. Please call Mammosafe to verify coverage with Hummanna and United (713.590.3641). Usually, this is a 100% covered service, although it is not guarantee for every patient. For some, it may fall to a copay or a deductible, but usually not. Cash pay is $150 per exam with no insurance.
- Are walk-ins welcome? No walk-ins, although Dr. Roubein tries his best to accommodate. Your current Physician or Ob/Gyn is required to forward your final results. Written reports are mailed 3-5 days after the event.
