Katy’s New City Hall Opening in 2016

Covered by Community Impact News, sources say that Katy’s new City Hall building on 901 Avenue C will be reaching completion in the spring of 2016. This new three-story facility is intended to serve the community in a much needed way.

According to city administrator, Bryon Herbert, a resident survey showed that people want the City Hall to look very traditional, giving it “that hometown USA feel for the building, that’s how we designed it to make it look like it’s been here for a while.” The 33,000 square-foot building will have a three-tiered roof, traditional columns, and a clock tower.

Each floor of the building will be designed to serve a specific administrative function. The lowest level floor will be designated for various city business services, such as paying taxes or getting a permit. The first floor will include the City Council chambers. The second and third floor levels will serve as an assortment of financial, administrative and human resources offices. According to Herbert, they plan to leave half of the building vacant for now to leave room for growth.

Herbert and other city members are excited for the construction of the City Hall, as it plans to relieve much of the strain at the old city hall. Katy’s massive growth truly calls for this addition, and the residents in the Katy area will be pleased to know that “there will be no tax increase and no bond” required.
