Preparing Your Garden for Fall

It’s fall ya’ll! Fall is not always the most exciting time to garden, as with spring of summer, but it is a great opportunity to clean up your garden, and even plant cold resistance plants and vegetables. Let’s show what can make fall your new favorite gardening season!

~ Bring in Delicate Plants

Although it is a bit of a chore, take the time to bring in your delicate plants for the winter, or at least develop a strategy to protect them from this cooler weather. You can enjoy the brightness and freshness of them if brought inside your home!

~ Plant Cold Tolerant Annuals

If you didn’t know, many annuals bloom in the cold weather- violets, petunias, and alyssums are just a few examples. These flowers can complement the beautiful colors of fall, while still providing you with the attractiveness of a full garden.

~Plant Cold Tolerant Veggies

Yes, veggies can also thrive during the fall months. Garlic, onions, and shallots can be planted and ready for the spring harvest. However, you can plant quick-growing plants that will be ready before winter approaches in full. You can plant radishes, peas, lettuce, kale, and spinach.

~Plant Trees or Shrubs

Fall is the ideal time to plant new trees or shrubs. These plants will extend their roots beneath the ground, hopefully springing up right in time to be watered in the summer time. It is a great way to get a head start!
