Texas Property Taxes Rank Among Highest in the Country

As seen in Culture Map, a new study from WalletHub revealed very telling details about the real estate taxes owned by Americans, but specifically Texans. By reviewing 2014 U.S. Census Bureau data and state-by-state Department of Motor Vehicle records, the study was able to calculate that Texas has the fifth highest real estate tax rate when compared to our counterparts.

Continuing, the study found that Texas pay an average of $3,327 each year, which is $1,238 higher than the reported national average. The only states that exceed the Lone Star State were Wisconsin, New Hampshire, Illinois and New Jersey. Unlike twenty-seven other states, Texas does have a vehicle property tax, which would typically ad around $423 more per year.

Through real estate and vehicle property taxes, New Hampshire residents on average pay $4,062 each year, which makes them No.1 on the list. Residents of Hawaii has the lowest real estate property tax, $482, and they do not pay any vehicle property tax.
