Design Tips from One of Houston’s Hottest Designers

With 2015 being the “Year of the Sheep,” Marie Flanigan, a popular designer in Houston, TX, says that design trends are anything but meek like the traditional sheep. Flanigan shares with her followers the bold design tips that freshen and revive some of your home spaces.

~ Mid-Century Modern~

Flanigan predicts to see a lot of mid-century modern touches but with a little twist this year. She says mid-century furniture will make a prominent showing, along with lounge chairs with modern fabrics and tile with geometric patterns.

~ Black is In~

With neutrals being all the talk for numerous design seasons, making a bold statement in the home is now here. Black is the color of choice! This sultry, luxurious color is being used in the bathroom, bedroom, kitchen, and more, according to Flanigan.

~Metal Influences~

Mixing organic materials and metals is extremely popular this year. Combining
repurposed wood with a strong metal provides a wonderful dynamic of strength and tradition.

~Animal Hides~

Definitely inspired by Texas, using animal hides is becoming common nationwide. Flanigan foresees that hides will be used more creatively than before, such as upholstering your favorite chair or layering it with your living room rug.

~Exposure Living~

Flanigan says that emphasis of design is trending toward minimalistic living. Exposed light fixtures, exposed beams, and deconstructed furniture are a raw, refined appeal in home design.
