Houston is Forbes Magazine’s Fastest Growing City

According to Forbes Magazine’s annual list of “America’s Fastest Growing Cities,” Houston has landed itself in the number one spot. Houston is considered to be an “economic powerhouse” because of the near 700,000 new jobs created since 2005 in the energy industry. Boasting of a 4.5% year-over-year job growth rate, Forbes reports that the Bayou City is the nation’s fastest.

Statistics offered by Greater Houston Partnership predict that over 60,000 new jobs will also be created in 2015. In addition to job growth, the Houston population has grown by half a million people over the past few years, in part to births, but also in part to families moving to the city. With the substantial population growth, the housing demand has correspondingly been record breaking- over 425,000 homes sold in the last five years.

Austin and Dallas take the second and third spots on the Forbes list, as they follow Houston’s precedent of low unemployment rates and high population growth.
