Selling Your Home? Beware of These Design Trends.

We all love to make a home our own by providing personalized touches and customized areas, but as a Seller you have to be mindful of your home’s appearance to a Buyer. A Buyer wants to visualize themselves in your home, and anything too individualistic could jeopardize this. Below are some interior design trends to be wary of when selling your home.

  • Boldly Painted Walls

In modern home design specifically, decorators love to use blacks or reds to provide backdrops for metallic accessories. Any boldly painted wall can be intimidating to a Buyer, and they won’t be too keen on having to repaint those accent walls. Neutral colors for a home’s interior are the best bet and let the Buyer add their own accessories for pops of color.

  • Wallpaper

Wallpapers are a great way to add texture and pattern to your walls, and they have made a more popular choice lately in design trends. But, because of the specificity in regards to taste, they are not the best choice. Also, the time consuming removal of them may deter a Buyer.

  • Lavish Light Fixtures

Although a modern or ornate light fixture may provide a centerpiece to your dining room, it may steal the spotlight of the rest of the room. And, if it’s a custom piece, Buyers may not want the hassle of finding the right replacement pieces if the fixture stays in the home.

  • Converted Garages

If you tailor your garage to your personal needs, such as a studio or music room, it could be a deterrent for a Buyer. Most potential homeowners want a safe, secure place to put their cars. And, garages are often times needed for storage purposes.

  • Carpets

The majority of Homebuyers prefer hardwood floors in today’s market. People assume that hardwood is less maintenance and less susceptible to germs and odors. If a Buyer prefers carpet, let them add it after they purchase the home.

When it comes to selling your home, keep in mind that Buyers want homes that they can picture themselves in. They want low maintenance homes that will not require endless up keeping and remodeling.
