The Proverbial “End of the Road” for Katy-Fulshear Road

On August 22, 2014, it was the proverbial “end of the road” for Fulshear-Katy Road.   It was a back road for many and connected FM 1093 to FM 1463.  However, it is now closed to all through traffic between the Irene Stern Community Center and just about half a mile south of FM 1463. Barricades will be used and the road will now become a dead end street.

Why was it closed? Well, it seems that the road is going to be “absorbed” into the Cross Creek Ranch development’s street/traffic plan.

For history buffs, for a long while, the road was a makeshift cut-off road, connecting Fulshear to the Katy area. Katy-Fulshear Road was originally a rock and gravel street that was used mainly by area rice farmers whom needed access to their fields. At one point in time, the road was actually paved, but after a few years it was ground under because the upkeep of the road was too expensive.  It remained a gravel road from the Irene Sterns Center to FM 1463.

Katy-Fulshear Road will soon be but a distant memory; a distant reminder of our once small town’s agricultural past.
